Weeks 1&2

So far the first two weeks of Alexander's life have been nothing short of amazing! He has been such a Wonderful baby! Since we have brought him home he has been a champ at sleeping. During the day I try to get him to eat every 3 hours wether he wakes up on his own or I have to wake him up myself. At night he takes 4 to 5 hour stretches of sleep and the Pediatrician seems to be fine with this, especially after his 2 weeks stats. =) (later on with that). There were a few nights around day 5 where I thought he had his night and days confused and he wanted to be awake for an hour after his feeding at night but Abuelita came up with the brilliant idea of giving him his bath at night before his nighttime feeding, which so far has worked like a charm! So this past week has been good on Mommy as far as sleep goes. =)

When we first came home we were having some issues with him latching on to breastfeed because he was still so sleepy and uninterested in working for the colostrum. But ever since my milk came in at full force around day 3 he has been sooo good about feeding and is such a little piglet when it comes time to eat. I have even managed to start freezing milk because of the abundant supply.

Josh and I went to Alexander's first doctor's appointment and we were so happy to hear he is doing great! He has gained weight and is weighing in at  8lbs 1oz and measuring 20 3/4 inches.  All his stats are with in normal range and he is measuring in the 50th percentile. The Doctor  seemed very pleased with his weight gain, considering newborns loose weight the first few days of life. We are still waiting for the DANG umbilical cord to fall off (makes bath time a little difficult)!

The first two weeks we were blessed with lots of visitors. We had all kinds of yummy food and sweets around the house! Thankfully Mom was here with us during that time and was such a HUGE help to Josh and I!  Sadly she had to leave us after 2 weeks with Alexander and I can't even begin to tell you how sad and hard it was for me to see her go. Not just because we had a spotless house, laundry was always made, and we were eating AMAZING home cooked meals everyday, but because I no longer will have her company and loving support. =( I suppose its time for Josh and I to join the real world and begin this journey on our own. I have no doubt we will do just fine but I am not going to lie I am already counting down the days until Abuelita comes back for another visit!

Here are a few firsts we have gotten to experience with baby A these last 2 weeks...

*First bath
*First smiles
*First time Josh and I got peed and pooped on
*First Tummy time: he has been able to lift his head up for short periods of time
*First time to sleep in his crib: we started this from Day one and he has slept really well in there
*First nighttime book read
*First professional pictures: had his newborn pictures taken on day 5 and 7
*First outing for lunch: We sat outside on a rather breezy day for lunch
*First stroll around the block
*First Doctor's appointment: 2 week routine visit
*First signs of Baby A making his own schedule: So far this is what our last week has looked like
*Wakes up between 6-7am for a diaper change, feeding , another diaper change, and a good
1 to 1.5 hour awake time, followed  by sleep
*Wakes up around 10am for another round (his awake periods are not as long, about 30min)
*Wake up  around 1pm to 1:30pm for another round
*Wakes up about 4:30pm to 5pm for another round and is normally awake for a longer
stretch, about 1 to 1.5 hours
*Wakes up about 8pm to 8:30pm for a bath, feeding, story time, and gets put back to sleep in
                    his crib by 10pm.
*He either wakes up or I wake him about 2am for another diaper change, feeding, diaper
change and is back to sleep by 3am-3:15am.
                           * We will see how long this lasts but so far this what Baby A has come up with*

Here are a few of the MANY pictures we have taken over the last few weeks. Newborn and family pictures taken by the amazing Sara Jensen are still to come, so stay tuned...
